YR u here?
I’m YR, a researcher, teacher, and student, in that order of priority, and it depends who’s asking.
I make questionable decisions in my life. The blog is where I tell you all about them, with the focus of convincing you to make the same ones.
Serious Interests
I research cybersecurity stuff, more precisely the intersection of formal methods and security. Formal methods is the business of writing a system down as a mathematical object, so that you can reason about it rigorously. I spent my undergrad on the security half. Now it’s time for some math.
Teaching (read: traumatising) students every semester, hoping that my explanations land. So far, I have taught programming, data structures and algorithms, and, rarely, discrete math.
Other Interests
- Accumulating tech disabilities. Using an alternative keyboard layout + tiling window manager is sufficient to render any computer unusable to anyone other than its owner.
Advocating for Vim keybindings. Using Vim itself is optional, using its keybindings is not. If you’re not using them, you’re not editing text, you’re wasting time.
Magic. I’ve done this for a good
current_age - 8years. Not that I’ve been actively practicing (or performing), but I haven’t given up on it yet.
Quirks
Known around the office for two things: obsessive use of Vim and asking “How’s life?”. One opens files, the other opens conversations.
